The end of the year is upon us and with it, we bring you the Inside Packaging Yearbook, a round-up of some of the key topics we've looked at over the last 12 months.
In this issue, we look at whether recyclability could give aluminium an edge in beverage packaging as businesses and consumers attempt to move away from plastic. Following this, as demand for metal cans has increased in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we learn about the options available for manufacturers on the journey towards sustainability.
In the world of glass, we learn about FEVE's 'Closing the Glass Loop' recycling initiative. Similarly, we hear from both Dassault Systèmes and Tetra Pak as we learn what the companies are implementing in the drive to a more sustainable, circular economy.
As the pandemic brought a new way of life to many of us this year, we also look to e-commerce, learning how in home-bound times cloud-based labelling solutions could change the game.
Undoubtedly one of the biggest topics recently, in the packaging industry and the general global psyche, has been that of plastic and its environmental impact. We learn about the potential of ocean plastic, as well as diving into the implications of new legislation surrounding polymers both in Europe and the US.
To round things off, we look at some of the notable design stories from this year, highlighting how Garçon Wines are pushing a new wine bottle design to improve sustainability. Lastly, we ruminate on the issue of pester power, looking at the marketing of unhealthy foods to children and the efforts being made to redress the balance on supermarket shelves.
