More than 50 years of packaging expertise

Manufacturer of multilayer packaging films focuses on comprehensive services and cutting edge technology for customers

With approximately 1400 employees and worldwide sales of more than EUR 410 million in 2018, the SÜDPACK Packaging Group is a leading manufacturer of hard and soft co-extruded films. The southern German film manufacturer's product portfolio ranges from multilayer hard and soft films to tubular bag films, top films, and prefabricated bags. The company also specializes in film printing using flexographic, gravure and digital printing processes. The family-managed business was founded in 1964 by Alfred Remmele in Ochsenhausen, Germany (Baden-Württemberg). Today, the SÜDPACK Group operates production facilities in five states and distributes its products in 73 countries.

It all started with a groundbreaking innovation: In the 1960s, SÜDPACK was one of the first companies to develop plastic composites that allowed controlled gas exchange. Over the decades, the company became a specialist for cheese maturing bags. In its fifty years of existence, the family-managed company expanded into many different areas of film development and production. Sales volumes grew steadily – as did investments into the latest technologies. With them, the SÜDPACK Group successfully pursued its goal of always offering their customers state-of-the-art packaging solutions.

The company invests in its employees as well as in technology, and focuses particularly on training future packaging specialists. "We see ourselves as film designers. We deliberately cultivate a consistent competitive edge and technological advantage. That is why we can continue to develop and are able to adapt to the wide range of requirements for high-performance films," said Johannes Remmele, SÜDPACK Managing Partner.

Today, the SÜDPACK Group is one of the industry's market and technology leaders as well as one of Europe's top manufacturers of high barrier films. The packaging professionals place special emphasis on the development of high-performance thin materials that can help conserve natural resources, thus contributing to environmental protection.

Flexographic and gravure printing processes

SÜDPACK prints its films in-house using gravure printing in up to twelve colors, double-sided pattern matched prints with inline lamination, and high-quality flexographic printing in up to ten colors. The company has also added digital printing to its services to complete its "print family." SÜDPACK's finishing portfolio also includes matt varnishes, haptic lacquer, matt-glossy combinations and printed paper (also for designs with windows), as well as high-quality intermediate layer and surface printing.

SÜDPACK complies with the highest quality and hygiene standards. This is reflected in certification to ISO 9001:2008 standards (1994), production based on HACCP guidelines (1996) and certification according to BRC (2003). Supported by the environmental management system in compliance with ISO 14001 implemented in 2009 and the energy management systems in compliance with ISO 50001 (2012), the company works to continually improve its resource, waste, and energy balance. SÜDPACK has also been certified for occupational health and safety management in compliance with OHSAS 18001 since 2012. With its sustainability report, SÜDPACK provides an insight into all the company’s activities in the area of sustainability.

Focus on customers

The packaging professionals based in Ochsenhausen, Germany routinely develop their products in close cooperation with customers, which include long-established family enterprises along with brand-name manufacturers and international conglomerates. Currently, most SÜDPACK packaging is used for meat and dairy products. Other markets include medical products, fish, bread and bakery products. The subsidiary SÜDPACK Medica manufactures medical and technical packaging. Customers can request a variety of packaging tests at the company's in-house research facility to help determine the best possible packaging.

SÜDPACK is currently in its second generation of family ownership with managing partners Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher at the helm. This gives the company independence and guarantees long-term stability for customers and employees. In addition to corporate headquarters and production operations in Ochsenhausen, the company operates four production sites in Switzerland, Poland, the USA and France. Sales offices and agencies are located in 18 other countries.
