In the following section, we present selected case studies highlighting the use of cybersecurity within the packaging sector.
Case study: Greater Omaha Packaging and Darktrace
Greater Omaha Packaging (GOP), which operates in 70 countries globally, sought to reduce the cybersecurity risks caused by accidental human error. GOP adopted Darktrace's autonomous response system, Antigena, which targets cyberattacks while they are in progress.
Darktrace’s AI analyst claims to replicate the thought process of a human technology analyst to provide incident summaries to help security teams understand the attack. GOP also uses Darktrace's Proactive Threat Notification (PTN), which alerts the company of serious emerging security incidents via app and email.
Case study: Pact Group and Interactive
Several packaging companies have acknowledged the problem of ESG. To tackle the problem of ESG, Pact Group turned to technology to secure its manufacturing plants and equipment. Pact Group deployed IT company Interactive its cybersecurity measures. Interactive proposed the adoption of Microsoft’s Azure Sentinel SIEM, which allowed Interactive to provide risk assessment that constantly monitored alerts coming from the Sentinel platform.
Following Pact's acquisition of another firm in a new market, this triggered cybersecurity breach alerts once the acquired system was connected to the company's network. Interactive responded quickly to the risk by performing an immediate clean-up. Thus, Pact was able to bolster its risk management.
Case study: Wessex Packaging and Neuways
Wessex Packaging provides packaging materials, solutions, and machines throughout the UK. The company has installed firewall tech and an email security solution to safeguard from hackers, as 90% of all cyberattacks started with a phishing email, according to Cisco’s 2021 Cybersecurity Threat Trends report. The company turned to cybersecurity vendor Neuways for a disaster recovery plan.
